Introduction to Zotero

Hello and welcome to our summer workshops! On this page, you may sign up for an Introduction to Zotero session which will be held in person in the Davis Family Library.

What is Zotero?

Zotero is an open-source citation management tool (like RefWorks or EndNote) which is free to use anywhere in the world. It is especially useful for anyone managing many sources, of various types, for multiple research projects. In this session, participants will learn how to:

  • populate their Zotero library by importing or creating metadata from sources like books, articles, websites, etc.

  • organize these citations and accompanying research materials such as notes and annotations

  • produce bibliographies in various citation styles while using word-processing software (MS Word or Google Docs)

Who is this session for?

This session is for Summer Research Assistants. No prior experience with using Zotero is necessary. Basic understanding of academic citations is helpful, but not necessary. Green Peppers pasta, salad, and refreshments will be provided during the session.

What must I do beforehand?

Download and install Zotero on the machine you regularly use.

Follow the instructions below for installing Zotero and related plug-ins. If you have any questions or run into any problems while installing the software, you can contact Laksamee Cave go.middlebury.edu/laksamee. When you make contact, in addition to describing your question/issue, include what operating system you're using (Mac/PC), which browser you're using (Chrome, Firefox, etc.), and if you've received any specific error messages. All of these things will help to diagnose the issue.
